Tasmania’s West Coast is steeped in history and natural wonders, and the many regiomal activities in and around Strahan can take your delegates back to a bygone era, telling the stories of the past, of major challenges and triumphs, and inspiring them to take these lessons back to your conference, and back into their lives. The Gordon River Cruise aboard Lady Jane Franklin II takes delegates on a journey deep into a land lost in time, exploring two vastly different waterways – the might and power of the mouth of Macquarie Harbour, known as Hell’s Gate; and the calm reflective waters of the World Heritage listed Gordon River. Along the way you’ll hear tales as tall as the trees surrounding you, and enjoy a gourmet lunch or dinner, before stopping off at the former penal colony of Sarah Island on the way back to Strahan.
The inspiring feats of the original pioneers on the West Coast will amaze your delegates as they take a journey on the West Coast Wilderness Railway. This 35km track was built by hand in the late 1800s through near-impenetrable landscapes, and painstakingly restored to the tourist railway it is today – including the original steam locomotives and rack-and-pinion tracks.
As the sun sets and Strahan settles down for the night, some of its residents are only just beginning to come out to play. The fascinating Little Pengiuns will delight your delegates with their antics on the evening Bonnet Island experience, which includes samples of gourmet Tasmanian specialties to enjoy during your voyage.
Strahan Village can arrange a variety of other experiences for your delegates, including white water rafting down the Franklin River, sea plane or helicopter flights over the pristine beaches and rugged, otherwise inaccessible terrain of the West Coast, sand boarding on Henty Dunes and jet boat rides on the King River.
