7 DAY ITINERARY

ImageDay 1
Arrive in Launceston, northern Tasmania's gracious city. Check into Country Club Tasmania and enjoy some of the facilities and activities, then discover Launceston's many attractions - the exciting new Inveresk Cultural Precinct, the city's beautiful parks and gardens and the Cataract Gorge Reserve.  Stay overnight at Country Club Tasmania.

Day 2
Drive along the North West Coast then south to the picturesque West Coast port of Strahan. Experience the world's great railway journey on the West Coast Wilderness Railway, taking you back more than a century to the days when pioneers forged a rail link between the mining town of Queenstown and the port of Strahan. In the evening, enjoy a wide range of dining options, including superb buffet dining at View 42 Restaurant & Bar, great local seafood at the Fish Cafe on the Wharf and cheerful pub meals at Hamer's Hotel. Stay overnight at The Strahan Village.

Day 3
There's plenty to explore in and around Strahan - don't miss the cruise to the Gordon River aboard the fast, comfortable 'Lady Jane Franklin II'. See Hells Gates, the entrance to Macquarie Harbour, cruise past a working salmon farm, go ashore on Sarah Island, feared penal colony in convict days and walk into the forest to see ancient Huon pines. Stay overnight at The Strahan Village.

Day  4
Make an early start on your journey through World Heritage wilderness then south to Hobart. Close to the city, taste our cool-climate wines with a visit to vineyards along the Southern Tasmanian Wine Route and discover the perfectly preserved Georgian village of Richmond. Call in to the galleries and cafes of Salamanca Place. If your stay includes a Saturday, Salamanca Market is a must see - you can even catch a ferry back to our own wharf. Relax in your Wrest Point room before enjoying a special evening meal in the Point Revolving Restaurant. Stay overnight at Wrest Point.

Day 5
Follow the Arthur Highway into history as you explore the Tasman Peninsula, with its tall sea crags, magnificent coastal scenery and rich convict heritage. Allow plenty of time to wander through the Port Arthur Historic Site with its intriguing interactive interpretation centre.  Explore other important heritage sites along the Convict Trail - call in at the Coal Mines Historic Site and Eaglehawk Neck, location of the notorious dog-line.  Return to Hobart to stay overnight at Wrest Point.

Day 6
Take the scenic highway along the East Coast through Orford and Swansea and head towards the rugged granite peaks of The Hazards in the Freycinet National Park. Take the easy walk to the Wineglass Bay lookout, with its sweeping view of one of the world's most beautiful beaches. Take a cruise to see dolphins and seabirds, visit an oyster farm or paddle a sea kayak along the sheltered coastline. Stay overnight at Freycinet Lodge.

Day 7
From Freycinet, head north through the fishing port of Bicheno to reach Launceston via the Elephant Pass to St Mary's and Fingal, or continue to St Helens and head inland to Launceston via Pyengana and Scottsdale. Check into Country Club Tasmania - if you've made an early start there may be time for a trail ride or a relaxing round of golf on our 18-hole championship course.  In the evening, dine at our award-winning Terrace Restaurant. Stay overnight at Country Club Tasmania.
