Strahan Experiences

Strahan is a hub for explorations of the West Coast – it’s a destination that needs more than a day or two to discover. This picturesque little port on the edge of the wilderness is the home of two of Tasmania’s most iconic and essential experiences. The West Coast Wilderness Railway takes you on a steam train ride into history, on the line pioneered through dense rainforest and steep-sided gorges more than a century ago; while Gordon River Cruises voyages across Macquarie Harbour and into the mirrored waters of the Gordon, with a landing on the once-feared convict colony of Sarah Island. And they’re just two of Strahan’s special activities – you may also like to observe seabirds at close quarters and feel the isolation of early light-keepers on the Bonnet Island Experience.
